To say 2011 was challenging for Josh Grant would be an understatement. The opportunity to finally ride for Factory Honda turned into a nightmare with one injury after another. For 2012 Grant will join the crew at Jeff Ward racing in 2012, and will be Kawasaki mounted in the Supercross and 450 National Championship Series This could be a huge year for Josh Grant. With one win on his resume in the big bike class and numerous podiums in the lites throughout his career and all the talent in the world Josh just needs the right mix of atmosphere and luck to push his way onto the top of the supercross podium again. Josh started his pro career with Honda and is now back with the brand that he was so comfortable with. It goes without saying that anyone of Team Honda is expected to win. I wouldn't bet against josh doing just that in 2011. Grant’s rookie year came in 2004, and he rode his Amsoil Honda to tenth overall in the Motocross Lites series. Along the way, the eighteen-year-old racer earned three podium finishes. The following year was another consistent one, as he finished a solid eighth overall in the East Coast Lites Supercross series. His best finish of the series came at the physically grueling Daytona Supercross, where he battled to the very last corner to earn second place. Grant would close out the year with a seventh overall in the Motocross Lites division, once again competing with the Amsoil Honda satellite team. The 2006 season established Grant as a definite title threat. He would again choose the East Coast Lites series as his battleground, and would finish a respectable third overall. However, he did so with three wins: one in Atlanta, another in Orlando and the third one in Detroit. Grant would also finish third in the outdoor national series, with four podiums in the Lites class. In the same year, he would take his Sobe/Samsung Honda CRF250R to the top of the podium at the U.S. Open of Supercross in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2007 season marked Grant’s third year as a pro and he continued to show that he knew what it took to stay up front. A third overall in the Motocross Lites series, which contained an overall win in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, followed three podium finishes in his Supercross season. Many expected a Supercross Lites title from Grant in 2008, and although he was definitely a pre-season favorite, he got off to a slow start. However, once the season got going, Grant would return to his old self, as he challenged front-runners Ryan Villopoto and teammate and eventual champion Trey Canard. Grant would go on to finish the season in the fifth spot.
“Here’s what you need to know about Josh Grant: He has shown great speed in the 450 class, and he’s a proven entity,” said Erik Kehoe, Motocross Team Manager. Indeed, the new season brings back a familiar face to the Honda ranks as Josh Grant returns to the fold of Honda Red Riders. He’ll be riding the factory-prepped CRF450R in both the Supercross and Motocross series in 2011. |
